With the help of many students Dr. Dan Bruton has discovered eleven asteroids wandering through our solar system. Three of these have now been officially named and three others are now ready to be named. Two master's thesis and over 60 publications in the Minor Planet Electronic Circulars have resulted from minor planet research at SFA to date.

In addition to being an astronomer and physicist, he is the pre-engineering advisor and conducts research in alternative energy and robotics.
