Changes in the GRE "I am copying the academic deans and the graduate school to inform everyone of the changes coming for the GRE. A press release relative to the rollout of the next generation of the GRE is available at the www.ets.org/gre website. The item of concern to most deans and graduate schools is the non-negotiable date of July 31, 2007 after which the current GRE General Test will not be offered."
"The start-up date for the next generation is somewhere between September 10 and 29. The GRE will no longer be available on demand but on preset dates and times none of which SFA is in a position to negotiate. This will certainly impact the beginning of the Fall 2007 semester. " Note: I was asked to forward this message above to our students. Please contact me if you need more information about this change in the GRE. -- Dr. B.

Exxon Internship Opportunities Volunteer Houston and the ExxonMobil Corporation have teamed up for the 10th year to bring the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program to the Houston area. This program grants 65 non-profit and governmental agencies grants to hire summer interns. Potential interns must be considered sophomores (24 credits), juniors or seniors before the summer starts and must be returning to school in the fall as a full-time undergrad student. The internships are 8 weeks (some have extended work periods) and pay a stipend of $2000. Please see the listing attached and share this with your students. If the students are interested in any of the positions, they need to directly contact the person listed at that particular agency for their application process. The agency hiring deadline is April 30th... so students need to get busy sending out their resumes now! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding our program. My email is christyf@volunteerhouston.org
Sincerely,
Christy Foss Volunteer Houston 3033 Chimney Rock, Suite 460 Houston, TX 77056 (713)964-0212 (713)965-9601 fax
The Fun Stuff SETI Finally Finds Something SETI @ home a distributed processing client from UC Berkeley that installs on the volunteers` home computers and harnesses their processing power in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. So far nothing noteworthy has comeout of this massive project... that is until today! One of the volunteers was able to track down his wife`s stolen laptop using the IP address that SETI @ home client reports back to the server. After getting back the laptop his wife said, `I always knew that a geek would make a great husband.` http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/02/21/2326240 Funny Laugh http://www.glumbert.com/media/laugh
