Physics 470 Seminar - How to give a Seminar

Time: Thursdays, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Place: Room 334 of the Miller Science Building

Purpose

Physics 470 is an individual instruction course on giving technical presentations. The purpose of this course will be to give the student experience in research and preparation for oral presentations on scientific research. Each student will learn how to use multimedia in his or her seminars.

Attendance

Attendance will be taken and will be worth 5 points toward your attendance grade. Your overall attendance grade will be recorded on a 100-point scale.

Attendance is required at all meetings. If you think you cannot come to a meeting, check with the instructor before you miss it.

Grading

During the semester each student will give two seminars. The seminars are graded based on comments by the faculty members on written forms.

Course Average = (Seminar One Grade + Seminar Two Grade + Attendance Grade) / 3

This means that the two oral presentations and attendance are weighted equally.

A 90 - 100 B 80 - 89 C 70 - 79 D 60 - 69 F < 60

Requirements: 2 talks (15 minutes + 5 minutes discussion)
