Review Concepts for Exam I
Chapter 2 - DC Networks
Review the equations below. Be sure you know what each variable
represents and know what units are used for each variable.
Equations: 2.1 through 2.12, 2.17, 2.19, 2.21, 2.26
Examples: 2.1 through 2.20, 2.23 through 2.27
Tables: 2.1 through 2.2
Sections: 2.1 through 2.10
Chapter 3 - Series and Parallel DC Networks
Examples: 3.1, 3.4 (a,b)
Problems: 3.1 through 3.3
Sections: 3.1
Review the following concepts:
- AC and DC
- Circuit Symbols
- Resistors in Series and Parallel
- Kirchhoff's Voltage Law
- Kirchhoff's Current Law
- The Voltage-Divider Rule
- Resistor Color Codes (Figure 2.23)
- Voltage is measured across a resistor.
- Current is measured through a resistor.
- The current is the same through resistors in series.
- The voltage is the same across resistors in parallel.
How to Study
- Note that the equations will be provided on the test.
- Review the homework questions and class notes.
- Review the example problems in the chapter.
- Work some additional problems from the back of the chapters. Some answers are in the back of the book.
- Study each figure in the chapter and read their captions.
- Work some multiple choice questions like those in Checkup 1, 2 and 3 of your lab manual (pages 27, 41, 55).
- Make sure that you have read the sections in the chapters.
